Flying from los Altos de Santa Fé is simply spectacular. The launch has an amazing view over the caribbean, Caracas Islands and Mochima National Park. You will find thermic and dynamic conditions here, sometimes strong winds, which in most cases require a glider with good glide ratio and speed.
To get to the take off, drive along the Pto. La Cruz - Cumaná road for about 15 min till you find the detour to los Altos de Santa Fé, a nice road that will take you along the mountain for about 20 minutes enjoying the views and a refreshening climate till you arrive to los Altos, where you´ll see a black gate on your left side. I recommend to ask at the nearby house for permission. (If you find somebody). With 4WD car you can drive all the way up to the take off.
The launch is quite easy, take care of a little hill in front of it, that might give a little turbulence at the beginning. Enjoy the flight! Take all the thermals and updrifts you can find, let the vultures guide you through the sky. With some altitude you may see the village of los Altos de Santa Fé, see towards Pto. la Cruz and the cement factory of Guanta. You can also see the Caracas Islands, part of Mochima National park and beautiful beaches with boats that appear to be levitating over the crystaline waters...
Landing possibilities are either top- or you go down to Arapito beach (Arapito N 10?14'693" W 064?27'727"), the first big beach NE of take off. You can land either at the parking lot, taking care of powerlines, or at the beach, if it´s not too crowded.
