The Elephant´s Head is located on the southern slopes of Avila National Park, looking into Caracas.

This is the dream flight for many of the pilots that live in Caracas. It can be done in special occasions with special permits, like events in la Carlota (the airport within Caracas), and the price is being able to overfly the capital of Venezuela.

This place is thermic, as well as dynamic, and with good conditions, you can make it to the upper ridge of this mountain chain. It is important to keep an eye on general wind directions, no to get caught within a rotor.

The launch is a clear hill, covered with grass, that allows several gliders to be put next to each other. From there, you can enjoy a wondeful view of Caracas. It is important to bring along water and sun protection, since there is no shade to cover yourself from the strong sunlight.

In these events, you normally will go to land within the airport, at the spots designated by the event organizers. Other landing options are Parque del Este, which you can easily recognize with large green areas, also the golf course of the Country Club, or any baseball and football fields along the flight.

To get there, you can either take the trail up through Cachimbo, and climb for about 5 hours with your glider on the back, or a helicopter makes things simply easier to climb up.
