Humocaro is located at the northern part of the Venezuelan Andean range in a spectacular valley, in which the waters of Tocuyo river flow.
The take off is lies north of Humocaro Bajo Village. The mountain can be easily recognized thanks to the triangle formed by rocks. The main take off is exactly at the tip of this triangle.
There are two launch possibilities to chose from at the same mountain. The first is at the end of the road, at the cross (the one mentioned first). The second one is walking about 10 minutes from this last point up. This take off was mainly used before with SSW winds. But the lower one is perfect for most wind directions.
During noon this place has strong thermals and winds. Right after launch it is possible to feel the boost and it's not strange to find yourself climbing at 8 m/s in your first flight seconds.
The triangular stone wall underneath can be now enjoyed, aswell as the whole scenery around, including the villages of Humocaro Alto and Humocaro Bajo, Tocuyo Water Dam and the Andes.
During rainy season I found 3.000 masl high cloudbases, which is pretty strange for this time of the year in Venezuela. Summer must be a booster here.
There are several possibilities to land here: The garden of Los Humacos Lodge (Take care of the trees) N 09?40'47.6" W 069?58'30.2", a baseball field (easily recognizable from the air) and any field which has not been planted. The Locals know which ones are suitable for landing at the moment.
To get here the road Barquisimeto - Quibor - El Tocuyo - Humocaro Bajo has to be taken. In the last village ask for Los Humacos Lodge. The road continues up to the mountain. Nevertheless it's recommendable to take a guide up the mountain, because it's easy to get lost of you don't know the way.
