Autana - Salto Angel Venezuela

Loma Lisa is among the important Cross Country flying spots in Venezuela. World Cups have been flown here, and National Championships.

This Spot is located on a huge hill and has enough space to accomodate hundreds of gliders.

The flights are normally made during dry season, when it's possible to find high cloudbases above 3.000m, and the thermals are strong.

During this season winds blow strong from East - Northeast, so most of the Cross Country flights are made heading West - Southwest.

After takeoff it's easy to find thermals that'll take you to cloudbase. From the air you get to see La Victoria, the lagoons of Zuata and Taiguaiguai, the military airbase of Palo Negro, Maracay, Valencia and its lake, and the Morros de San Juan, two beautiful and impressive lime stone domes (nice rock climbing too).

Once on cloudbase it's generally easy to start eating Kilometers due to the high winds you find.

There is no landing spot in front of the take off. You can either land along the mountain and climb up, or you have to take at least 100 meters on a thermal to go to Guacamaya, the closest official landing for Loma Lisa.

There are some spots where it's not safe to land along the way, so I advise you to fly with people that know the area well and can give you a nice briefing. On the other side flights are made here generally with the so called "Sherpas", a local definition for the person that will be sitting in the car chasing you to where you land.
