La Sierra is located on Cerro el Copey National Park at the northern part of Margarita Island, and is the highest mountainous formation of the island. The peak of this mountain is called Cerro Grande, with 930 masl.
The Island of Margarita generally has strong winds. That's why it's recommended to fly on August at this spot, when the winds are weaker.
The take off is next to the road and pretty small, surrounded by fern so you better not abort, otherwise the lines can be tangled and it's annoying to set them free with these plants. The glider has to be put on the road and inflated from there.
In flight you can take advantage of the soaring created by the winds or take thermals that are strong and turbulent. Take care not to be taken to the lee of the mountain due to the strong winds!
In Venezuela it´s normal to fly along vultures, but here it´s full of them!

Flying forward to the east you can lose altitude and stay in the lower valley up with the thermals.

To get to the take off drive along the road Porlamar - La Asunción, in the village of Santa Ana turn left and take the road that leads to the entrance of the national park. Follow the road towards the antennas of Cerro Grande, and 10 minutes before arriving you'll find exactly on a right bend, a spot without vegetation on the left side. That´s the take off...
